Exploring Antique Shops and Kitchen in Ruckersville

A customer of mine suggested that I check out Jack's Shop Kitchen in Ruckersville up Route29.
The first floor is a gourmet lunch spot with a chef. I had the turkey cobb salad that was yummy.

This is three shops in one building, the eat in on the main floor. Number two would be
the antique shop on the second floor called Green House Shops.

The third shop is an antique shop in the basement called Gateway Antique Center, more shared antique booths with very unique booths, each turn of a corner reviles more great treasures.

And on my way home going back up 29, I had to stop in to Ruckersville Antiques, a large upscale
antique space with a beautiful display of all kinds of goodies, anything from furniture, to jewelry, to
silver.

What did I buy?

This beautiful small French chair for under $20.00.

This vintage mirror for under $20.00
This beautiful blue hand made vase for my Mom for her birthday in November.
12 pieces of Limoge dessert and luncheon plates for under $14.00.
Mini hand porcelain vases for under $3.00.
A porcelain painted cake knife and two really funky lamps, with a two way light.
Top light bulb under the shade and the lanterns also light up.
Great day for shopping, well worth the trip!

Fall Marbleized Pumpkins and More

I have been following a blog, Simple Details, on how to marble pumpkins.

The blue ones turned out better than the orange ones and it is easier to do with smaller
pumpkins. You drop a little nail polish into a bucket of warm water and dip the pumpkins into
it and there you have it. The pumpkins are half off at Michaels and I got the nail polish at
Target.
Here are my Fall porch decorations. the door basket I made came from the Dollar Store
and the pumpkins with garland came from Big Lots. And this beautiful Mum came from
my mother and sister.
One big decision I made after submitting my financials to a bank was that after almost
two years at The Factory Antique Mall, I am not making any money. I am actually losing
money, so I am slowly pulling things out.

My lease is up at the end of November, I probably spend more out there on purchases
and rent than I make. Time to make changes, save a little money.

Renting vs. Owning

A couple of weeks ago, I came across a cute little house one street over from
were I live. i have been renting now since I moved to Staunton and would love
to have a house of my own again. I have chandeliers in boxes, I dream of being
able to pick interior and exterior paint colors. Any way, here is the house I saw.
The price has been dropped several times and it does need a lot of work, so I went
threw the mortgage process and am trying to figure out how I could make it work.
here are a few pictures that I snapped.

White picket fence, cute frame house, large box woods and a dead tree right smack
in the front yard.
And more big trees in the back yard and side yard that are looming over the house.
Nice Lime Light Hydrangea, the yard could be a flower lovers dream, think cottage
style look with Hollyhocks and Roses. There is a sad attempt to a red door.
The house has an open porch, a screened in back porch and a deck.

Here are a few pictures that I took in side the house, everything needs to be painted,
the floors need some work and the stairs have a scary carpet on them, but hey it has a
gas fireplace.

It would be a lot to take on, I would be doing most of the work by myself. Or do I
stay put renting the Farmhouse. I have been here over a year and have made it my home.
Here are a few pictures of the rooms upstairs.

The light, white and cute guest room and the back hall way.
I love my messy little dressing room with the big window and my makeup table.

The tiny bathroom with the claw foot tub and my very bright and light master bedroom.

I just cannot make up my mind as to what I should do, we will see. Last picture,
I picked a fabric for my new corner chair. beautiful....

Chairs, Chairs and More Chairs

Last week while working at Queen City Marketplace, I saw this beautiful
corner chair and bought it and brought it home.
I am a sucker for a corner chair, this one has been painted and has nice fabric
on the seat, but not in my colors. So I have picked some fabrics to try on the seat
and will reupholster it.
I moved the slipper chair in the guest room to my dressing room, i sold my pretty
Schumacher slipper chair that was in there on Ebay by accident, forgot it was still listed.
I also had a hefty  price on it and had it on there like for ever. I brought one home from
my space, see previous post, but it is too wobbly and needs some work.
Good fit!
I found a beautiful little chair out at The Factory a couple of weeks ago and had Laurie and
Andrew reupholster it in a fabric sample of a line I no longer carry. I found the trim at Robert
Allen's outlet. I love how it turned out.

This is a beautiful Federal Style chair with brass details, it fills a space in my
dining room where I had a Victorian bamboo chair I had in my kitchen that I also
sold on Ebay. Is there a lesson to learn here?

I also found this cute purse at TJ MAXX by Nenette Lepore for my August purse of
the month.
