Chairs, Chairs and More Chairs

Last week while working at Queen City Marketplace, I saw this beautiful
corner chair and bought it and brought it home.
I am a sucker for a corner chair, this one has been painted and has nice fabric
on the seat, but not in my colors. So I have picked some fabrics to try on the seat
and will reupholster it.
I moved the slipper chair in the guest room to my dressing room, i sold my pretty
Schumacher slipper chair that was in there on Ebay by accident, forgot it was still listed.
I also had a hefty  price on it and had it on there like for ever. I brought one home from
my space, see previous post, but it is too wobbly and needs some work.
Good fit!
I found a beautiful little chair out at The Factory a couple of weeks ago and had Laurie and
Andrew reupholster it in a fabric sample of a line I no longer carry. I found the trim at Robert
Allen's outlet. I love how it turned out.

This is a beautiful Federal Style chair with brass details, it fills a space in my
dining room where I had a Victorian bamboo chair I had in my kitchen that I also
sold on Ebay. Is there a lesson to learn here?

I also found this cute purse at TJ MAXX by Nenette Lepore for my August purse of
the month.

Revisiting an Old Design Project

A few years ago, I helped a client with draperies for her large floor to ceiling windows
in an old house they have been slowly renovating her in Staunton. This room is the
living room with cream walls, an oriental rug and a new cream sofa. We went with Robert
Allen's Crystal Lake in Midnight for floor to ceiling panels in the two windows. This house
has really high ceilings, so the drapes really make an impact.  My client bought two club
chairs into the room that she had from her DC home. For these chairs, we decided to go
with Schumacher's greek key pattern, Maiandros Weave in Indigo. Two small french chairs
will also be added to the room for extra seating, for these we are looking at Beacon Hill's
Monsieur cotton and silk in the color Ruby.

To add to this Chinoiserie look, we are looking at a couple of fabric options
for the big sofa. Above you see a Pierre Frey with the big pink medallions, a
Highland Court solid raspberry, a bold pink and blue Robert Allen's Sophia
Range and the new Duralee Fabric's Soskin by Tilton Fenwick with the blue, green
and white pattern.

Once the chairs are done, we will have a better idea of what fabric works best and we
can play around with shapes and sizes.
I even threw into to the group a embroidery by Schumacher and a crewel by Stout Fabrics.
I will have to post more pictures of the job when it is finished.

Reupholstered Stool and What Came in this Week

I reupholstered bench that came in a couple of weeks ago
with the $10 silk fabric piece I bought at a fabric store
here and really lucked out on a Robert Allen piece of
trim that is a dead on match to the fabric.

Two new consignment pieces came in today.
An old singer sewing table with a stool.

An a Virginia Craftsman reproduction camel back sofa in a beautiful butterfly fabric.

My First Party at My New Home

Sunday I had my first real get together at my new house, rental
house that is. I wanted to have all the women over for a night of
wine and food and relaxation, the women who worked on The
S.P.A.C.E.'s Pac'n the Street's. A hand full of women planned
an event that closed off a street block in downtown Staunton on
a Saturday in September. A stage full of entertainment, a street
filled with craft vendors and food vendors, all planned in three months
with meetings once a week and most things coming together a week
before the event. We needed a little wine time!

I went to Big Lots for the mercury glass pumpkins, owls, gourds and the
tables glirtery table decorations. I now see that i need a class in flower
arranging! The sunflowers and berries are from Martins.

My newly upholstered  chairs in the Robert Allen fabric. And a lumbar pillow
in a fun Ikat chenille for the center of my sofa from TJ Maxx.

More flowers from Martins, pumpkins and spiders for the front hall
table and my chandelier was hung last week just before the party.

Porch decorations with mossy spiders, pansies, mums and pumpkins.
Nothing like a party to get you to decorate your house inside and out.

Found a pretty cushion for the window seat and some pretty pillows,
the window seat and big pillows are from Pier 1 and the lumbar pillow
in Brunshwig fabric is from my store. The round mirror is a repeat
purchase fro me from TJ Maxx. I have used it before in my staging jobs.

I finally picked up my picked up my grey silk drapes I bought from a friend.
I split them into two pairs instead of one big very heavy pair, they come from
London and are double lined, they are even too long for my high ceilings.
I bought the wood poles, brackets and finials at Lowe's to hold the heavy
drapes. I promise to post more pictures of my bedroom later.

This is the bath tub room, yes you heard me right, this room is for the claw
foot tub and my summer closet. The drapes used to be in my bedroom. The rug
and orchid I bought before the party to spruce up my look, the little table came
with the house, it's not me. I want to find something in marble and iron, french looking.
As I teak things, I will post more pictures. And yes, the get together was a huge success.

Before And After Story Of The French Sofa

This is the story of the French sofa that came my way some time last year.
When, I am not really sure, I would have to go back and look at my pictures
to come up with a date. I do love telling the story of how I got the sofa. Two
little old ladies from Waynesboro came into my store and asked if I was
interested in buying a large French sofa from them. They had just purchased
a new sofa and wanted to sell their old one. I said sure, $100.00, no picture,
just a gut feeling that any thing French sounds good to me.......

This the sofa after we (my intern and I) painted the sofa with CeCe Caldwell's
chalk paint in Dover White, sanded the edges and then brushed on the clear wax.
I choose a soft chenille grey herringbone fabric from Robert Allen and gave my
upholsterer instructions to not tuft the back and I wanted one big cushion instead
of three. Self cording, clean lines to give this guy a more modern feel.
This is the after the new look. The sofa sold before my upholster guy could finish it. A
customer saw the before progress, liked what she saw, asked if she could go see the
upholster to check on it's progress and paid me for it before it was finished. I went by
her home yesterday after it was delivered to take a picture of it for my before and after
story. It looked great, I was kind of said that it never made it back to my store. I would
have proudly put it in the front window to show it off. This sofa went in the master bedroom
of her guest house, she also bought that really cool headboard from Ballard Design that is
also white and has a bird on it.
